Description

Essential Functions:

  • Design and lead group and individual activities tailored to patients’ cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities.
  • Incorporate therapeutic goals into recreational programming (e.g., reality orientation, sensory stimulation, cognitive engagement).
  • Maintain a structured schedule and communicate changes promptly to staff and patients.
  • Encourage participation in activities that promote socialization and emotional expression.
  • Coordinate with nursing, therapy, and social work teams to align activities with treatment plans.
  • Share relevant patient observations with clinical staff while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Monitor patient behavior during activities and report any changes in condition to clinical staff.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and inclusive manner.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and participation records within the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Facilitate patient and provider contacts through telehealth services.


Knowledge:

  • Understand and complies with hospital specific policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and effort to improve the work environment.
  • Demonstrates pride in his/ her work and provides courteous service to all individuals.
  • Manages his/ her time and other available resources to the best advantage of the hospital.
  • Functions with an aware and application of safety issues as established at the hospital and behavioral health program.
  • Understands medical terminology, physician documentation, basic anatomy and coding process.

 

Skills Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels
  • Ability to complete competency CPR and First Aid
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • The individual shall be able to locate and identify the appropriate remedy to problems using established procedures and protocols.
  • This individual shall be able to work well in a structured team environment with a variety of disciplines and help maintain cohesion between team members.
  • This individual shall be able to utilize best practice and procedures to assist in the care and well-being of patients served, and address clinical and ethical dilemmas in a professional and competent manner.

                                                                                                           

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors.
  • Possible exposure to inside environmental conditions.
  • This individual will maintain a clean work environment.
  • This individual shall maintain a professional attire and grooming representing the organization.
  • This individual shall set a high standard of behavior, including speech and communication style, representing the organization.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Requires standing, sitting or walking for up to 12 hours or longer per workday.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • The individual will have the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, and grasp objects as needed.
  • This individual will have the ability to perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
 

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, or related field or equal years of working experience is preferred.
  • This individual will have at least 3 years of psychiatric experience.
  • This individual will have knowledge of medical terminology, and ability to locate information in the EHR as necessary.
