Description
Essential Functions:
- Design and lead group and individual activities tailored to patients’ cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities.
- Incorporate therapeutic goals into recreational programming (e.g., reality orientation, sensory stimulation, cognitive engagement).
- Maintain a structured schedule and communicate changes promptly to staff and patients.
- Encourage participation in activities that promote socialization and emotional expression.
- Coordinate with nursing, therapy, and social work teams to align activities with treatment plans.
- Share relevant patient observations with clinical staff while maintaining confidentiality.
- Monitor patient behavior during activities and report any changes in condition to clinical staff.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and inclusive manner.
- Maintain accurate attendance and participation records within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Facilitate patient and provider contacts through telehealth services.
Knowledge:
- Understand and complies with hospital specific policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and effort to improve the work environment.
- Demonstrates pride in his/ her work and provides courteous service to all individuals.
- Manages his/ her time and other available resources to the best advantage of the hospital.
- Functions with an aware and application of safety issues as established at the hospital and behavioral health program.
- Understands medical terminology, physician documentation, basic anatomy and coding process.
Skills Abilities:
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels
- Ability to complete competency CPR and First Aid
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- The individual shall be able to locate and identify the appropriate remedy to problems using established procedures and protocols.
- This individual shall be able to work well in a structured team environment with a variety of disciplines and help maintain cohesion between team members.
- This individual shall be able to utilize best practice and procedures to assist in the care and well-being of patients served, and address clinical and ethical dilemmas in a professional and competent manner.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors.
- Possible exposure to inside environmental conditions.
- This individual will maintain a clean work environment.
- This individual shall maintain a professional attire and grooming representing the organization.
- This individual shall set a high standard of behavior, including speech and communication style, representing the organization.
Physical Demands:
- Requires standing, sitting or walking for up to 12 hours or longer per workday.
- The ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- The individual will have the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, and grasp objects as needed.
- This individual will have the ability to perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, or related field or equal years of working experience is preferred.
- This individual will have at least 3 years of psychiatric experience.
- This individual will have knowledge of medical terminology, and ability to locate information in the EHR as necessary.
